Abstract
Using ICTs is known to increase the level of subjective health, but few research has investigated the behavioral context behind the use of ICT devices and their relationship to subjective health. This paper aims to empirically analyze ICT-using activity and its positive effects on the subjective health of older adults. For this purpose, we employed the 2019 Korean Time Use Survey time-slot dataset and divided respondents over the age of 60 into eight groups (not married/married, male/female, week/weekend). There were three findings: First, there was a difference in the statistically significant ICT-using activities that affect subjective health by groups. For example, household activity using ICT positively affects the subjective health in the unmarried-male-weekend group, while media use activity using ICT positively affects the subjective health in the unmarried-female-weekend group. Second, studying activity was discovered to have negative effects in the married-male-weekday group. In contrast, media use activity in the married-male-weekend group and physical activity in the marriedfemale-weekend group had positive effects. Third, social activity increased subjective health in all groups. This study suggests that ICT-using health policies should be diversified because its effects differ by gender, married state, and day of the week.
